Chain lifter

As we have seen before, the roller coaster train itself has no motor: for most of its operation, the train moves by gravity and momentum. In order to accumulate potential energy, the train needs to be lifted to the top of the first hillside or launched with great thrust.

The traditional lifting device is a long chain (or multiple chains), just like the chain of a bicycle, but much larger. It is installed under the track and extends upward along the uplift slope.
